Infusing the First Deck Layer
Another major step forward in the build process
Thank you to everyone who has donated to this campaign! There is still time to make a tax deductible donation through U.S. Patriot Sailing before the end of the year.
When Jane and I arrived at JPS Production, the team had already completed the work of laying down the first layer of carbon. This large sheet of green and black fibers was thin, but looked like a boat—or at least the shape of the deck. We watched the team carefully add reinforcement strips to provide additional strength to this thin layer of carbon.
While the hull mold was lifted off the plug, the deck was being created at the same time. As the two parts of the boat were side by side in the shop, there was a lot going on!
Make sure to check out our latest videos on Instagram and watch the process in the reel below:
After the carbon was laid down and in position, a vacuum bag was attached on top with tubes connected throughout. This is all part of the carbon infusion process. They initially pulled out all of the air to create a seal while resin was mixed up in a large bucket. This resin was then drawn through the tubes with the vacuum pressure to evenly coat all of the fibers across the deck. This creates the first layer of the deck where a foam core will be added and a top layer of carbon will be infused.
Thank you again to the team at JPS Production for giving us their time, access, and insight during this visit!

Looking Ahead — The 2027 Mission
While the last campaign focused on raising awareness for U.S. Patriot Sailing, this new mission is about expanding support — enabling the organization to create even more opportunities for veterans.
One major goal of U.S. Patriot Sailing is to introduce a cruising platform where veterans and their families can share calm, restorative experiences on the water — a vital way to strengthen connection and healing.
U.S. Patriot Sailing remains 100% volunteer-run, accomplishing its mission solely through the generous support of individual donors and grants. Together, we can make this next phase possible.

From raising awareness to expanding support — together, we’re building more opportunities for veterans.
